addi knitting machine
What is the best circular knitting device in your opinion?

I’m looking for a knitting “machine” with a hand-crank. I think I might like the Addi Express, but not the kingsize version. I don’t want to buy any toy versions that only take skinny yarns. (I already have several Knifty Knitter looms.) Thank You!

first of all – the kids toy type do not take thin yarns – they work best with rather thick yarns like you would use on the knifty knitter looms as the pegs/needles are quite far apart.

Personally I would not buy any of these type of hand crank machines as they are prone to skipping stitches and I find them rather awkward to use. They make decreasing and purling awkward and increasing is impossible on these machines. I would rather use dpn’s or circulars and handknit as then you would have more choice on the yarns and patterns to use and types of items you could make that are impossible on either the looms or on one of these machines.

I have been a knitter since 1963 and have used these type of machines and the round looms as well as hand knitting which is my preferred method.

EDIT – have also owned and used regular 200 needle bed knitting machines with a ribber attachment and these would make a better tubular knitting but are quite large and cumbersome as they need lots of room and a separate table to be setup on all the time. They took the “fun” out of knitting for me and I gave my 3 machines away many years ago to go back to hand knitting (slower, but more relaxing).
